Assistant Professor

New York University

Janet H. Van Cleave, Ph.D., RN, AOCNP, ACNP-BC, is an Assistant Professor at New York University Rory Meyers College of Nursing, New York, NY.

Dr. Van Cleave has integrated her clinical expertise in oncology and academic skills to develop a research program to improve older adults' health and healthcare. She has been a member of multiple national initiatives, including the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid technical expert panel on quality metrics, that generated evidence and defined excellence in gero-oncology practice. She has led interprofessional teams to conduct award-winning research and develop innovative technology and novel methodological approaches for early detection and real-time interventions for escalating pain and uncontrolled symptoms to improve health outcomes and overall health and well-being in older adults with cancer. Her research has generated strong evidence of the complex interaction between symptoms and function that lessens the quality of life and decreases the survival of older adults with cancer. She has presented her research at national and international conferences, published in high impact journals, including the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society and Nursing Research. Her publications have over 200 citations and read by international readers.

Dr. Van Cleave received her BSN and MSN from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, Ph.D. from Yale University, and her Postdoctoral Fellowship from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing NewCourtland Center for Transitions and Health.
