An exemplary academician, mentor, pediatric nurse practitioner and nurse scientist, Dr. Toly has led pioneering research, strategically building the science through a sequential series of studies illuminating the experiences of families caring for children dependent on lifesaving technology (e.g., mechanical ventilation, feeding tubes) at home. Her research has national and international impact with over 200 citations in scoping and integrative reviews, theoretical and empirical work and professional books by nurses, physicians, other healthcare professionals around the globe. Dr. Toly’s research findings have been integrated into the practice and policy guidelines of national and international pediatric medicine and nursing associations and disseminated in a variety of research and clinical journals to build the state of the science and illuminate the clinical implications of her work for nursing and interdisciplinary practice.
