Nicole L. Letourneau

Nicole Letourneau RN BN MN PhD FCAHS is Professor in the Faculty of Nursing and Cumming School of Medicine (Pediatrics, Psychiatry and Community Health Sciences) at the University of Calgary, Canada. She holds the Alberta Children’s Hospital Chair in Parent-Infant Mental Health and is Alberta Director of RESOLVE (Research and Education for Solutions to Violence). She is Principal Investigator (PI) of the Child Health Intervention and Longitudinal Development (CHILD) Studies Program (, examining parenting, child mental health/development in the context of maternal depression, family violence and other toxic stressors. She is also PI of APrON, a pregnancy cohort of 2200 families followed until children are 12 years old. She has attained ~$60 million CDN in research funding. Her research established the ATTACHTM and VID-KIDS parenting support programs. She authored the books Scientific Parenting: What Science Reveals About Parental Influence (2013) and What Kind of Parent Am I? (2018) published by Dundurn, as well 180+ peer reviewed papers. She has attained many honors including Canada’s Top New Health Researcher (2006), Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 (2007), Awards for Research Excellence from two Provincial Nurses colleges (2011 & 2015) and the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (2017), Difference Maker award from the Canadian Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (2017) and Excellence in Leadership Award from the Canadian Association of Perinatal and Women’s Health Nurses (2019). She is President of the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta. She is the most followed nurse on Twitter in the world.
