Bente Thoft Jensen

Bente Thoft Jensen (BTJ) is an Associate professor at the University of Aarhus, Institute of Health Science – Nursing Section and at the Department of Clinical Medicine. Moreover, she serves as senior Researcher at the Department of Urology Aarhus University Hospital, Denmark.

Dr. Thoft Jensen`s research addresses urology cancer pathways to improve clinical outcome and self-efficacy. As a clinical researcher, she has have added to the urologic evidence base as a principal investigator in more than 22 clinical studies. Her seminal work comprises 10 studies on ERAS protocols to reduce postoperative impairments in urologic cancer surgery patients. She expanded previous ERAS protocols to determine the effect of multimodal, multidisciplinary, prehabilitation interventions including: stoma education, progressive resistance and endurance training and nutritional enhancements as needed based on rigorous preoperative assessments. Her cutting-edge, proactive approach to treatment has shown tremendous impact benefit by reduction of postoperative impairments and changed the paradigm of surgical patient pathways.

Her leadership is complementary to her research and as a Chair of European Association of Urology Nursing for 8 years she fostered a forum on urology research and she grew the EAUN to a worldwide association in urology. The expansion was followed by a position currently as Chair for the Danish Nursing Research Council and set standards for nursing research in Denmark, determine strategies in collaboration with the DNO and develop policies for nurse involvement in national health research strategies. Dr. Jensen has received several academic and personal awards such as the "Best Article of the Year 2016" in Scandinavian Journal of Urology and the Catherine-Ann Lawrence Literary Excellence Award 2015-2016.

Dr. Thoft Jensen completed her educational program at Aarhus University and her Post.Doc Fellowship program at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York (NY).
