Catherine Haut is the Coordinator of Nursing Research and Evidence Based Practice, at Nemours Alfred I duPont Hospital for Children, Wilmington, DE and practices as a Critical Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner for Mednax-Pediatrix Medical Group, at The Herman and Walter Samuelson Hospital for Children, Baltimore MD.
Dr. Cathy Haut is an experienced nurse practitioner, educator and leader. She was the first certified acute care pediatric nurse practitioner (ACPNP) in the country, reflecting her work in developing this certification, impacting education and pediatric clinical practice. She has continued to share her expertise through panel participation, competency-focused taskforces and work groups to better define and differentiate ACPNP characteristics and related policy. She co-authored an exam review course, is co-editor of the AC-PNP review textbook, and recently published another textbook titled, Cases in Pediatric Acute Care: Strengthening Clinical Decision Making, designed to stimulate critical thinking skills in complex clinical scenarios. Dr. Haut served as elected president of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and currently is the president of the NAPNAP Foundation Board. She has been instrumental in leading research and quality improvement projects impacting pediatric care delivery with highlights including pediatric palliative care training, adolescent end of life communication and creation of family-focused, interprofessional care meetings for end of life decision making. She has authored over 30 journal articles, and 60 national, professional presentations.
Dr. Haut received her BSN from the College of Notre Dame, Baltimore MD, her MS and DNP from the University of Maryland School of Nursing, Baltimore, MD.
