Faith Gibson

Faith Gibson is Professor of Child Health and Cancer Care at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Surrey, United Kingdom.

Dr. Gibson has over 25 years’ experience in children’s cancer nursing. In her research she works with children and young people. She would describe herself as a narrative researcher, undertaking and evaluating participatory research, and developing a more recent interest and skill set in combining arts-health-research. The patient and family experience are a priority in her research, focussed on improving process and outcomes of care for children/young people with cancer and their families, and in particular improving assessment and management of symptoms. Her research spans from diagnosis, into survivorship and end of life care. She has been influential in the expansion of the research evidence base for children’s cancer nursing in the UK and beyond. She has shared her research at national and international conferences, has edited four textbooks and published over 150 research publications. She holds editorial positions on the European Journal of Oncology Nursing, Cancer Nursing and the Journal of Pediatric Oncology Nursing.

Dr. Gibson completed her general nurse training in 1981 at Nottingham University Hospital. She went on to qualify as a cancer nurse, then children’s nurse, then after combining these two areas of practice, she has worked at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust in London, UK since 1986. Her career has spanned practice, education, and research. She received her PhD from London South Bank University.
