Cindy Dawson is the Chief Nurse Executive and Associate Director of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Throughout her nursing career, Ms. Dawson has been a transformative leader, expert clinician, and role model for otorhinolaryngology (ORL) nursing and translating evidence into practice. Ms. Dawson is widely recognized for leading and mentoring interprofessional teams in clinical and operational initiatives to sustain practice changes and improve outcomes. Ms. Dawson created a shared vision for EBP excellence and optimized the organization’s infrastructure to increase capacity while serving as EBP faculty and appropriating resources for nurse-led EBP and research. In addition, Ms. Dawson expanded the culture and capacity for EBP through leadership in the Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Head-Neck Nurses (SOHN). She held several leadership positions and served as SOHN president (2010-2011), serving over 930 members representing 49 states and 10 countries and over 350 conference attendees from across the U.S. and world annually. Ms. Dawson served as the first nurse on the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Foundation’s executive oversight committee representing SOHN. In recognition of her clinical expertise in ORL nursing, she collaborated in developing the Tracheostomy Care Clinical Consensus Statement and Bell’s Palsy Clinical Practice Guideline. Ms. Dawson’s work on tracheostomy care expanded to national and international presentations, peer-reviewed publications, national consultations, and innovative training modalities.
Ms. Dawson received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Iowa and her Master of Science in Nursing Administration from The University of Phoenix.
