Becky J. Christian, PhD, RN, FNAP is Professor and PhD Program Director at the University of Kansas, School of Nursing. Dr. Christian is a Distinguished Scholar and Fellow in the National Academies of Practice.
As a nurse scientist guided by clinical expertise in pediatric nursing, Dr. Christian’s program of research is focused on how vulnerable children and adolescents with chronic conditions and/or physical disabilities integrate chronic illness into their lives – the intersection between physiologic, functional health, and psychosocial adjustment to chronic conditions and developmental needs of children and adolescents to improve quality of life, as well as how their families manage chronic conditions. Dr. Christian’s scholarship includes dissemination of over 100 peer-reviewed, data-based publications. Dr. Christian writes the Research Commentary--Translational Research for the Journal of Pediatric Nursing (10.5-years), synthesizing research articles to translate evidence for pediatric nurses in practice.
Dr. Christian’s academic nursing career has focused on helping students make linkages between theory, research, and practice, as well as health policy. Dr. Christian’s professional service has been highlighted by serving on research grant review panels (11 national organizations), and providing sustained research mentorship to students (PhD, DNP, MSN, UG Research Scholars), and early-career and senior faculty for which she has received several research mentorship awards. Dr. Christian’s philosophy of servant leadership has been demonstrated through administrative service as PhD Program Director and Department Chair.
Dr. Christian received a BSN and MSN (Family-Child Nursing) from the University of Missouri-Columbia and PhD from The University of Texas at Austin.
