Ashley N. Leak Bryant

Dr. Ashley Leak Bryant is an Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing. Dr. Bryant has substantive, sustained, and outstanding contributions in gero-oncology research and building nursing capacities in oncology, gerontology, and leadership. Dr. Bryant has impacted nursing practice through interprofessional education and research to students across programs and disciplines. She is dually certified as an oncology and gerontological nurse and her practice experience informs her research. As a translational researcher, her program of research is on developing, implementing, and disseminating palliative care symptom and functional interventions initiated in the hospital and clinic that extend into the home setting for older adults with cancer and their caregivers. Dr. Bryant has a global influence in sub-Saharan Africa through virtual education and mentoring of nurses in Malawi with support of UNC and Oncology Nursing Society. She has strong contributions in mentoring and nursing education. In 2019, Dr. Bryant received the Faculty Award for Excellence in Doctoral Mentorship and Education at UNC School of Nursing. Recognizing her research in care of older adults with cancer, she received the ONS Excellence in Care of the Older Adult award in 2016 and the ONS Victoria Mock New Investigator Award in 2017. Dr. Bryant is committed to improving the symptom and functional experience for both the patient and caregiver. Dr. Bryant received her BSN and MSN (Nursing Administration) from UNC-Greensboro School of Nursing, PhD in Nursing from UNC-Chapel Hill and post-doctoral fellowship at UNC-Chapel Gillings School of Global Health.
