Ellen Blair, DNP, APRN, PMHCNS-BC, NEA- BC, is currently the Director of Nursing at the Institute of Living, Hartford Hospital, CT.

Dr. Blair’s distinguished career in psychiatric nursing has spanned more than 40 years. Her work has had a significant and enduring impact on enhancing quality and safety in psychiatric nursing practice on a regional, national and international level. With expertise in suicide prevention, reduction of seclusion, restraint and violence and fall prevention, Dr. Blair has disseminated and expanded the knowledge base for these important topics through multiple publications and presentations. Her leadership and research efforts in these area have transformed and sustained a culture of safety and patient-centered care in the inpatient psychiatric setting. Fostering continuing advancement of patient and staff safety, Dr. Blair is the associate chair of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association Council for Safe Environments.

Dr. Blair completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Adelphi University, a Master of Science in Psychiatric Nursing from Yale School of Nursing and a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from the University of Saint Joseph.

Dr. Blair has received several prestigious awards including the Excellence in Conduct of Nursing Research Award, Connecticut APRN of the Year Award, Doris Armstrong Nursing Leadership Award, Award for Excellence in Practice as an APRN and Psychiatrist in Chief Award at the Institute of Living.
