and the American Hospital
Robyn Begley is the CEO for the American Organization for Nursing Leadership and the SVP/CNO for the American Hospital Association.
As a senior healthcare leader for over 30 years at the national, system and organizational levels, she successfully led strategic initiatives to address diversity and disparities and advance strong, supportive work environments. As CEO of AONL, Dr. Begley leads efforts to decrease disparities and advance healthy work environments by switching the resource paradigm—from the perception of nursing as a cost center to a value center. She led the transition of AONL from an association focused on chief nursing officers to an inclusive organization supporting nurse leaders at all levels and settings. She spearheaded the plan for increased diversity and led an initiative to educate the board, affiliate leaders, and members on the value of diversity to patient and organizational outcomes. She leads the AHA’s work on reducing maternal mortality and morbidity. In partnership with the American Nurses Association and the Healthcare Financial Management Association, Dr. Begley led groundbreaking work on promoting optimal allocation of nursing resources through outcomes-based staffing. She spent 20 years as an organizational and system Chief Nurse Officer where her leadership focused on empowering nurses to lead. Success of these efforts is reflected in 4 Magnet designations and the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.
Dr. Begley received a BSN from Georgetown University, MSN from Widener University, and earned her DNP at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
