Alona D. Angosta

Alona D. Angosta is a tenured Associate Professor and Director of the MSN and Post-Master’s Certificate programs at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Nursing. She is also a nurse scientist and board certified NP.
Dr. Angosta served as the president of the Asian American Pacific Islander National Nurses Association, board member of the National Coalition of Ethnic Minority Nurse Associations and RWJF Campaign for Action’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Steering Committee. Her research focuses primarily on cardiovascular disease, specifically lifestyle choices, and those most vulnerable. She is one of the few nurse scientists who is taking on the task of studying Filipino Americans – one of the fastest-growing racial groups in the U.S.– with the intent of improving their cardiovascular health. This effort is needed as Filipino Americans have high rates of cardiovascular disease. Through dissemination of her work totaling over 60 in presentations and publications at national and international conferences, in media interviews and peer-reviewed journals, her study findings have reached researchers, health care providers, Filipino immigrant organizations, and the general public. As evidence of her exceptional leadership and contribution to nursing and health care, she received numerous awards including the 2020 AANP State Award for Excellence, Leadership Scholar from the Okura Foundation, Excellence in Service and Research, and Most Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year.
Dr. Angosta received her PhD from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, BSN and MSN degrees from University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
